Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt discouraged.
haha! I know, I’m not in this boat together. We’re both floating down that same little stream together. We’ve lost our way and have let ourselves float down the wrong river…we’ve drifted into discouragement.
I’m guessing we’re all discouraged at some point in life for a variety of different reasons:
loss of a job
lack of a job
lack of a spouse
…or even the dream that just doesn’t seem to come to fruition.
That’s my stream. That’s where I’m currently lost…discouragement from an unfulfilled dream.
Almost two years ago, I never would have dreamed that it would be so difficult to find the Muddy Fox Farm. We had to let another one go today. And boy, we both thought for sure that ‘this is it’. I could even imagine where our bed was going to go, how I would sit on the beautiful porch with my morning coffee, tending to the animals and weeding the beds I already designed in my mind. It seemed just about perfect.
But this makes me think of Joshua 1:9:
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
I always pray for closed doors…because if a door is left open, I probably will jump right through it – even if it’s not the right place to go. Well, this property is clearly (to us) a closed door, so I need to let it be.
what to do if you’re discouraged
- PRAY >>> if you’re a believer, pray. The Lord’s plans are a whole lot better than mine…so naturally I want to stay in His will. Pray that He reveals His will and plan for you.
- RE-EVALUATE >>> is this the right time to purchase a farm? Am I too old to start a homestead now? Is this the right location, or should we be moving out of the area? Is this really a dream that can be achieved? Is this really our dream? How bad do we really want this? Bad enough to keep looking?
- SEEK COUNSEL >>> if you have friends or family that you trust – ask them for advice.
- PICK YOURSELF UP >>> I love the quote below…pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again
So that’s what I’m going to do. We will not be discouraged. We are going to pray, re-evaluate, seek counsel, and pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and start again.
Have you been discouraged in the process of purchasing a homestead? I’d love to hear your story. I’d love to know that I’m not crazy and loosing my mind! 🙂 Comment below or email me your story – I can’t wait to hear it!
